Not everyone is lucky enough to land their dream job, but according to Marianne Østvang, that is exactly what she did. As the new CFO at Trysil RMM, she is exactly where she wants to be, working on tasks she is looking forward to taking on. However, it is not necessarily the financial part of it that she is most looking forward to, but rather the growth, potential and opportunities for the company she is excited about – and that is what she is focusing on now that she is embarking on her new journey.
Economist with a Passion for People
Marianne is not your typical economist. She likes to take chances, with the belief that the best things in life happen between people – not just working with numbers, and she likes to face new challenges head on. “I am obviously precise and careful in my work with the financial management and the general control, but the work we have just started is what I find most meaningful on a daily basis!”
This work is concerned with restructuring and change. Over several years, Trysil RMM has grown far beyond Norway’s borders and today we have offices in Norway, Finland, Sweden and the USA. “This means that we have to align ourselves better in order to get a qualitatively good financial follow-up of the entire company. This implies that we are now rolling out a number of new systems and tools to ensure we report on the same thing and produce the same figures.”
As such, with a stable position in all the markets in which we are present, it is natural to look at the prospects of growing even more. In this area, Marianne is an important asset for the company. Marianne herself knows that this is exactly how she wants to use her skills. “While growth and investments are incredibly exciting, I also get a unique opportunity to work across national borders, cultures and language barriers. We are not as similar as we might think, despite the fact that we share borders or think that we are very much on the same wavelength.”
The Great Extremes
When we speak to Marianne she is in Finland, busy implementing a new ERP system in the neighboring country. However, if it was entirely up to her, she would have done something completely different.
“I simply love being out in nature!” Marianne laughs, and reveals that it’s not just hikes in the mountains that she appreciates. “The best thing I know is diving. Preferably in Saltstraumen. It’s absolutely fantastic!” In addition to having a whole raft of diving certificates, she has done both hang gliding and parachute jumping. “And picking berries. I can spend an incredible amount of time on that. Gathering food and having berries available throughout the winter is something very special.”
While these are two pretty extreme opposites: diving in the world’s strongest maelstrom and berry picking, it makes sense that Marianne is taking on the role as the CFO of Trysil RMM. On the one hand, she is not afraid to take chances, not afraid to push boundaries and test herself, while at the same time she is patient and systematic, bordering on detail-focused in her search for the best berries.
“I’m really looking forward to tackling everything the future brings in Trysil RMM – this is without a doubt my dream job right now!”
